Service Description
Level: Intermediate This class is for those of you who have made a quilt top and now are wondering how to finish it. I will teach you how I layer the quilt top, batting and the backing, called "sandwiching." There are different ways to do this, some work better than others depending on the quilt. You will also learn pinning process and a couple of different methods for sewing your 3 layers together; referred to as the "quilting." Supplies: - A finished quilt top, a top about 50 inches will give you a good idea of how it all goes together and quilts. * Please try not bring anything larger than 75 inches width or length. - Batting, the stuff in the middle, at least 8 inches bigger than width and length IE: a top 50 x 45, needs a batt 58 x 53 * I really like Quilters Dream Cotton and Bamboo, sold in packaged sizes at Quilt Werks and other fabric stores. - Backing for your quilt. This is one piece, or pieced fabric, that is also at least 8 inches bigger than your top. *You can buy backing fabric; it comes in 108 inches wide, or piece your back together. This needs to be done before class. - Safety pins (quilters safety pins are curved and make easier application) You will need a lot of pins, IE: for 50 x 50 at least 100 pins * Please have a container for your pins - Optional, but very handy, a Kwik Klip tool, or similar, as this tool helps you close the pins. - Sewing machine in good working order, and the knowledge to operate the machine. - A walking foot for your sewing machine. If you do not know what this is, please look at your machine manual. **Due to the layers in your quilt , you will need this. There are other methods to quilt together if you cannot find this foot. - A couple thread choices you like with your quilt top; I use a 50wt and like Aurfil Any questions or help, please send me an email to karlaquilts@outlook.com **Class participants will receive a 10% discount at Quilt Werks, 1505 Main St, by showing a copy of their class registration.
