Service Description

Participants will be introduced to a historical overview and origin of sweetgrass basketry along with basic construction methods, materials used, and the tool used in making a basket. *Feel free to bring a bag lunch and drink.* Mary Graham-Grant will be the instructor for this fun workshop. Born and reared along the coast in Georgetown, South Carolina, Mary is dedicated to preserving the tradition of sweetgrass basketry since sewing her first basket in 1990. It is important for her to let people know that the art of sweetgrass basketry is an art form that was brought to South Carolina by slaves who came from West Africa and has been practiced continuously in South Carolina for over three hundred years. She has worked as an artist-in-residence in numerous elementary, middle and high schools and conducted workshops for many arts councils, governmental organization throughout South Carolina and other states. She has also conducted week long workshops at Universities in Virginia and Maryland.

Cancellation Policy

Class Cancellation & Refund Policy We understand that life brings surprises to us all, and sometimes people must cancel their class reservation. Seating is limited and we may have people on the waiting list for the class. Please be considerate and let us know as soon as possible if you need to change your plans. Help us continue to offer these wonderful classes, at the most affordable costs possible, by reading and adhering to our cancellation, refund and transfer policies. Please note that under no circumstances will NAC prorate any classes, camps or workshops. Cancellation Policy Classes and Workshops: NAC cancels classes when enrollment minimums are not reached. Cancellations are determined no later than 2 business days before the class starts. One Day/Evening Workshops & Events: These 3-hour workshops or events are cancelled when enrollment minimums are not reached. Cancellations are determined no later than 1 business days before the class starts. Kids & Teens Summer Camps: NAC cancels camps when enrollment minimums are not reached. Cancellations are determined no later than 4 business days before the camp starts. Refund Policy Full refunds are given for any class, workshop or event if the class is cancelled by NAC. Cancellations occur when the enrollment does not reach the minimum enrollment. If a student chooses to withdraw from a class, workshop or event, prior to the start date, the refund policy is as follows: Classes and Workshops • 100% refund with 4 or more days notice prior to start date of the class. • 50% refund with 3 or more days notice to start date of the class. • No refunds will be granted after the start of the class or workshop. Camps • 100% refunds with 7 or more days notice. • If a camper is not available for an entire week of camp, we highly recommend that the parents choose another week. Camps are designed to be a week-long learning experiences and projects are not designed to be completed on a day-by-day basis. Transfers • In place of refunds, transfers may be made to another class, or gift certificates may be issued to be used in the future toward classes, workshops and camps.
