About the instructor: Joanne Crouch is a versatile and accomplished visual artist whose creative practice spans painting, encaustic wax, gourd art, alcohol ink, and cyanophotography. As President of the Art Association of Ridge Spring, she plays a vital role in cultivating a dynamic local arts community, leading efforts to promote creativity, connection, and education through exhibitions, workshops, and public events. Known for her approachable teaching style and technical skill, Joanne shares her expertise through hands-on classes and group workshops, with a focus on making art accessible to artists of all skill levels. She offers instruction in encaustic wax—a technique that blends heated beeswax with pigment to create luminous, textured surfaces—as well as gourd art and alcohol ink methods that celebrate color, form, and experimentation. Her work in cyanophotography—an alternative photographic process that harnesses sunlight or UV light to create striking blue-toned prints—reflects her fascination with the intersection of nature, chemistry, and creativity. Joanne’s own artistic journey is fueled by a commitment to lifelong learning and professional growth. She has studied at respected institutions such as the Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts in Gatlinburg, TN, and has attended specialized workshops in Asheville, NC. Her continued participation in juried exhibitions and professional competitions reflects her passion for excellence and exploration in the visual arts. Whether leading a painting party, teaching a technique class, or organizing a gallery show, Joanne brings creativity, leadership, and an infectious enthusiasm that inspires those around her.
