SKILL LEVEL: Intermediate to Advanced DEADLINE TO REGISTER IS OCTOBER 16, 2025 Finding the right techniques and designs to paint portraits or people in a setting is often a challenge for watercolorists. In this class, we will focus on how to design an effective portrait that brings about emotion and how to put people in a setting that feels naturally situated. We will also explore color palettes for skin tones and how to achieve soft transitions of washed on the faces. I have put a + sign beside the basic needs. Paint Colors Winsor Yellow or Azo Yellow Light Daniel Smith + Permanent Yellow Orange + Brilliant Orange - Holbein Scarlet Lake + Permanent Alizarin Crimson + Quinacridone Rose+ Bright Rose - Holbein French Ultramarine Blue+ Pthalo Blue, Red shade, green shade, or just plain Pthalo Blue+ Cobalt Blue Pthalo Green blue shaded Leaf Green - Holbein Sap Green+ Burnt Sienna Winsor Newton+ Raw Sienna+ Please have professional-grade watercolors (NO Cottman, Academy, or other student-grade paints) Paper Arches 140 lb. cold press 9x12 sheets or block+ A mounting board for loose sheets (Masonite, heavy cardboard, gator board, foam core) Masking tape or artist’s tape. Photo Images you might like to paint Brushes Brushes Assortment of flats and rounds Minimum of #6 or #8 round 1” flat+ Other Palette with ample space for mixing + (Masterson watercolor palette, Pike Palette are good examples) 2 Water containers + empty jars are suitable, or plastic yogurt containers Paper towels or tissues + Spray bottle (something inexpensive from Dollar Tree or Walmart) Ruler Hair dryer No. 2 or HB pencil + Kneaded eraser + Sketch book + Tracing paper + Transfer paper + Pebeo Masking Fluid Rubber cement pick-up ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR Anne Hightower-Patterson is an award-winning South Carolina artist and teacher. She has won multiple awards in both local, state, and national competitions. After spending 29 years in education, she is also a master teacher.

Cancellation Policy
Class Cancellation & Refund Policy We understand that life brings surprises to us all, and sometimes people must cancel their class reservation. Seating is limited and we may have people on the waiting list for the class. Please be considerate and let us know as soon as possible if you need to change your plans. Help us continue to offer these wonderful classes, at the most affordable costs possible, by reading and adhering to our cancellation, refund and transfer policies. Please note that under no circumstances will NAC prorate any classes, camps or workshops. Cancellation Policy Classes and Workshops: NAC cancels classes when enrollment minimums are not reached. Cancellations are determined no later than 2 business days before the class starts. One Day/Evening Workshops & Events: These 3-hour workshops or events are cancelled when enrollment minimums are not reached. Cancellations are determined no later than 1 business days before the class starts. Kids & Teens Summer Camps: NAC cancels camps when enrollment minimums are not reached. Cancellations are determined no later than 4 business days before the camp starts. Refund Policy Full refunds are given for any class, workshop or event if the class is cancelled by NAC. Cancellations occur when the enrollment does not reach the minimum enrollment. If a student chooses to withdraw from a class, workshop or event, prior to the start date, the refund policy is as follows: Classes and Workshops • 100% refund with 4 or more days notice prior to start date of the class. • 50% refund with 3 or more days notice to start date of the class. • No refunds will be granted after the start of the class or workshop. Camps • 100% refunds with 7 or more days notice. • If a camper is not available for an entire week of camp, we highly recommend that the parents choose another week. Camps are designed to be a week-long learning experiences and projects are not designed to be completed on a day-by-day basis. Transfers • In place of refunds, transfers may be made to another class, or gift certificates may be issued to be used in the future toward classes, workshops and camps.
