Storytelling with Julian Gooding is THEATER! Children will use drums, sound machines, costumes, and puppets to tell their stories. Julian Gooding uses the oral traditions of storytelling to open the creative mind and spirit of a child. Children will take part in each story in ways that suit them the most. They can become the characters or help in the creation of mood and imagery with props and world percussion. For 40 years Julian has been working as a television producer, documentary filmmaker, and more in Washington DC, Maryland, Virginia, and now Charleston, SC. We are so excited to have him visit us in Newberry! On the 4th day of camp, Award-winning storyteller, Anita Singleton and her character, Aunt Pearlie Sue, will visit Newberry. Aunt Pearlie Sue is the creation of Anita Singleton-Prather, a native of the Sea Islands in Beaufort County, SC. Aunt Pearlie Sue’s character has entertained audiences with Gullah-flavored folktales for over 10 years. Back by popular demand, Prather continues to creatively entertain and educate audiences of all ages about the African experience in America. She continues to mesmerize audiences from the schoolhouse to the White House and around the world. Kids that attend the storytelling camp will receive FREE vouchers to see Aunt Pearlie Sue and the Gullah Kinfolk Theater at Newberry Opera House on Friday, June 23!
