Service Description

Come join us in making scrappy happy little houses quilt blocks. These houses go together fast, are fun to create and can be made with a variety of leftover fabrics, or curated in your choice of colors. You will learn how to do improvisational piecing while designing your happy homes. Improv piecing lets you decide how much structure you want in your design. I will teach you the basics to this block and show you how to put them together is an easy format. Once you learn this technique, I can help you take it to great heights or you can keep it simple. It is a fun and creative block. - You will need a sewing machine in good working order and know how to use it. *NAC has a couple sewing machines you can use is class on a first come basis. - Neutral thread, I like a #50 Aurfil, off white is a good color or gray if you want to use dark fabrics -Rotary cutter with new blade ** cutting mat is optional, we will have a couple mats set up to share -Quilter’s ruler 24 x 6 inches or similar -Seam ripper -Scissors -Assorted fabric strips .. here is where you can get creative. You can use scraps of fabric (perfect for this quilt) or gather colors in you preferred choices. I used scrap fabric but I tried to keep each house in the same colorway. I used green and florals for the lawns and blues for the sky. You will need various widths of strips For houses, lawns and some skies, strips from 1 inch to 2.5 inches, 3 to 13 inches long For the roofs and skies, pieces need to be anywhere from 2.5 to 6 inches wide by 6 to 13 inches long If you want you can fussy cut some small pieces (no bigger than 2ins square) you want in your windows. I put a cat and a dog and some bees If you are a quilter, you will know more choices are always better. It may be fun to bring extras to trade with others This is improv piecing so you can decide as you create. Same with the cutting, if you have strips -great! Bring them. I would not spend all evening cutting up my scraps but it will go faster if you have some done before class. Any questions you can email me at kvmbig@gmail.com
