Beginner level - 8 week class In this class, we will learn to center, pull, and shape clay using a potter’s wheel. Wedging, good studio practices, trimming, and glazing basics will be covered as well. A small amount of time will be dedicated to hand building as it is a foundation to being able to throw well on the wheel. By the end of this class, you will have finished pieces to take home! *One 25-pound of clay is included in the class fee. Students should bring their own pottery tools (kits are available for purchase at the Newberry Arts Center), a towel, apron or old shirt and a small sturdy bucket (1 gallon or 5 quarts) or container for water. Tools needed: - needle tool - wire tool - tack sponge or pottery-making sponge - trimming tools ***We ask that you help us keep the air we share healthy and fragrance free by not wearing perfume, cologne, aftershave, scented lotions or other fragrances while taking a class or workshop. The chemicals used in scented products can make some people sick, especially those with fragrance sensitivities, asthma, allergies and other medical conditions
