Students must be comfortable wedging, centering, pulling up, and shaping a clay cylinder on the pottery wheel. This class will focus on shaping clay into specific forms/shapes, including but not limited to bowls, mugs, plates, bottles, and vases. We will work in various sizes and styles. Glazing instruction and making of test tiles will also be covered. All students will participate in group critiques so we may learn from each other *One 25-pound of clay is included in the class fee. Students should bring their own pottery tools (kits are available for purchase at the Newberry Arts Center during business hours), a towel, an apron or old shirt, and a notebook for taking notes. Tools needed: - needle tool - wire tool - tack sponge or pottery-making sponge - trimming tools *NAC has beginner tool kits available to purchase. Please stop by the Artisan Shop at 1200 Main Street during business hours to purchase. ***We ask that you help us keep the air we share healthy and fragrance-free by not wearing perfume, cologne, aftershave, scented lotions or other fragrances while taking a class or workshop. The chemicals used in scented products can make some people sick, especially those with fragrance sensitivities, asthma, allergies and other medical conditions
